Finish Fairtrade Fair
Fairtrade Finland, that also coordinates Fairtrade towns campaign in Finland, organized Fairtrade Fair in March 23rd. Representatives from public procurers, restaurants, retail chains, wholesales and food industry were invited.
The Fair was organized the second time and there were 30 exhibitors from all over the world: Fairtrade tofu and tempeh manufacturing company from Finland (Jalotofu), Fairtrade wines from Lebanon (les Coteaux d’Heliopolis) and South Africa (Thandi), Fairtrade juices from Brazil (Strauss), Fairtrade nuts dealing company from Switzerland (Pakka) and Fairtrade coffee roasteries from Sweden (Arvid Nordquist and Löfbergs).
National minister present at the Fair
The keynote speaker of the Fair was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development, Kai Mykkänen. He spoke for a fairer trade and emphasized the importance of supporting the small producers and small businesses in order to reduce the extreme poverty.
Visitors also got to hear, how the town catering services of the city of Turku sees it’s role in promoting sustainable and responsible public procurements.
Finnish Fairtrade towns coordinators were invited to meet at the Fair. Catja Kaloudis and Iris Mäkitalo from Fairtrade Sweden were also invited to the meeting to tell about the Fair public procurements and Fairtrade towns in social media in Sweden.
